It was another short week but we still had a lot to do. We continued our reading unit on MLK and started to learn about Mahatma Gandhi. Specifically, we learned who he was as well as the influence he had on Martin Luther King. There were some great discussion pieces on revolution through peaceful protest.
As mentioned last week, our iPads finally arrived. Seeing the iPad incorporate itself into a wide array of subject areas has been fascinating. For example, in math we continued to learn about fractions but used the iPads to help facilitate our small group work. We can be more streamlined in our transitions since students can work on their individual account in the same room. Check out our students logging into ST math below. We’re still working out the kinks but had some great conversations on problem solving.
The iPads have provided new learning opportunities in writing as well. This may seem like an unlikely pairing, but the iPads found their way into our unit on poetry. We used our iPads to help us write a cinquian and diamante poem. Students took picture around the room to find a “noun” they can write about. Then, student expanded their vocabulary by using an online thesaurus to find synonyms and antonyms. Check out all the photos below.
If you haven’t had the chance you need to check out QAE’s video for the Seahawks. It goes without saying we are all pretty excited. Over 70,000 views and counting. Go Hawks!
