I have to kick off this week’s post by saying thank you. Thank you for all the holiday well wishes as well as the exceptionally remarkable holiday gift. It is greatly appreciated. Likewise, the support shown for our young writers was remarkable. Altogether a great example of how extraordinary the QAE school community can be.
We spent our final week before break practicing our multiplication facts and beginning to explore the relationship with division. Students started to see how division problems are simply regrouped multiplication problems. All of this led up to our holiday themed fact art showcase on Friday. Check out the pictures below.

We also continued our science unit on rocks and minerals. Specifically, we began to develop our understanding of rock properties and types. We performed a simple inquiry project on why rocks have different colors. Using this as a foundation, students learned how rocks are formed in a myriad of different ways.
In anticipation of our writers’ celebration, we practiced reading our stories and recorded our different Harris Burdick narratives. Utilizing the criteria we studied in “War of the Worlds”, every student recorded their narrative on an ipad. It was both a fun and empowering way to build our literacy repertoire. I hope to share the recordings soon. Check out the photos of everyone developing their reading criteria.
Hands down the biggest event this week was our writers celebration. Throughout the week students practiced reading and commenting on their writing. We kicked things off by sharing our stories with other classrooms as well as reading our peers work. This all lead to our room celebration. It was awesome to see so many students excited to share their writing to the entire room and within small groups. Personally, I can’t wait to see how everyone grows as writers from here on out.
