One of our milestones this week was the reintroduction to all things multiplication. This week in math students reviewed the concept of multiplication through skip counting, arrays, grouping and word problems. Altogether, this has been a great time for students to begin to tackle more complicated equations while practicing their fact fluency. Nows a good a time as any to break out some flash cards at home and practice multiplication facts.
Meanwhile, students have begun to publish their stories based on
The Mysteries of Harris Burdick . The variety of characters, plots and ideas developed by students is inspiring to say the least. Be on the lookout for our first writing celebration. Students are pictured below typing up their stories. If you haven't already, give your student an opportunities to practice their typing at home. Being able to type is essential for our 21st Century learning environment. We're still forging on with our nonfiction reading. This week students reflected on how to merge together their foundational knowledge with new info. Below, students are marking new learning with sticky notes and recording their responses on an anchor chart. The specific reading was on whales. This was a subject they studied in second grade. Many were amazed how much new info their acquired in an area they assumed they were experts in.
Another solid Week in Review. Happy to see what they came up with. Thoughtful and spot on.

-Mr Bing
Three Questions:
1. How do we recover from a mistake and apologize?
2. Can you draw an array that demonstrates 3 x 4? What about a number line (skip count)?
3. Who is Monty Monarch?
