We had an eclectic week of school. Everything from Martin Luther King to rocks. In Science we began our transition to studying minerals. We posted different questions on minerals as well as what we would like to learn about them. We compared and analyzed twelve different mineral types. After this, we performed a color field tests on them. Everyone was amazed how you could write with some minerals!
We did a lot of poetry this week. Specifically, we started to explore the different tools poets use to make their work more compelling. We learned about alliteration, rhyme, rhythm, and onomatopoeia. Likewise, we continued to read and analyze different poems. Check out the photos below of students practicing these concepts.
This week we dug deeper into our reading unit studying Martin Luther King. As a class we learned how good readers look at important events and problems facing characters. By doing so, we gain a deeper understanding of what we read as well as who Martin Luther King was. At the same time, we have been preparing for our MLK assembly next week. Check out our rehearsal video alongside our photos. Can’t wait for next Thursday.
